Startup dilemma: homeland or abroad?

MOST Startup Media gathered the founders of the most popular startups in Kazakhstan as part of the podcast.
Madiyar Toleugali - co-founder and CEO of UvU

Doszhan Zhusupov - founder and CEO of Cerebra

Zhandos Tursumbayev - founder and CEO of CTOgram

Maksat Kadyrov is a co-founder of Kwaaka

Beibut Zhanturin - co-founder of Prosper Pay

Podcast host CEO MOST Holding Mirat Akhmetsadykov discussed plans for the future with the founders, from local and global markets to startup growth strategies and team relocation to other countries

Together, the founders identified the 3 most common problems faced by startups and investors on their way:

  1. Insufficient competence

Mirat Akhmetsadykov cited as an example the case when the pitch of startups in Singapore: "They are a head stronger".

Mirat believes that the main barrier to the growth of competence is time. In the future, the market of Kazakhstan, including its participants, will be able to catch up in terms of experience and skills. However, this will require significant efforts from all ecosystem participants. He emphasizes the importance of continuous training and adaptation to new conditions. The final success depends on the initiative of the entrepreneurs themselves and their readiness for continuous training and development.
  1. Little money

"Why do banks receive, for example, state funding, and venture funds no longer have financing. Almost all financial organizations receive some support from the state," Madiyar Toluegali touched on the topic of state support.
In addition to the fact that the founders and owners of venture funds are trying to draw the state's attention to the development of the startup market, there is also an issue of insufficient capitalization. "In Kazakhstan now I do not know such a person who would collect a fifty millionth fund," Akhmetsadykov shares. Funds faced the problem of fundraising. As a result, startups in need of funding could not get it to the extent they wanted.

  1. Being an infogypsy is still more popular than being a startup

One of the tasks of market players, including the MOST ecosystem, is to popularize entrepreneurship, especially startups.

"Everyone wants to be a blogger, an infogypsy, because infogypsies and bloggers look richer," says Zhandos Tursumbayev.
Now it is much easier for young people to become a blogger than to understand the business and technological part, to attract investments, as startups do. Therefore, each of the entrepreneurs on the podcast set himself the task of becoming a role model or helping at least one founder to become famous enough for everyone to know his name.
